Start with a written plan
There is no single price that describes every implant case. The proposed restoration, assessment and additional procedures can differ. A price for placing an implant may not be the price for a complete replacement tooth. Ask for a written plan before comparing quotations.
Ask what the quotation includes
| Part of the plan | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| Assessment | Are consultation, imaging and planning included? |
| Implant and restoration | Does the quote include the implant, connector and final crown, bridge or denture? |
| Additional procedures | Would extractions, grafting, temporary teeth or sedation be charged separately? |
| Follow-up | Which reviews, maintenance visits and repairs are included? |
Compare the same proposed outcome
Bring both treatment plans to the discussion. Check how many teeth each plan replaces, what remains removable and who provides each stage. Ask what might change after assessment and how a revised price would be agreed. A cheaper headline figure does not tell you whether the plans are equivalent.
Check funding and payment terms
NHS funding for implants is restricted to specific circumstances. Do not assume that a practice offering NHS care can provide an NHS-funded implant. If considering finance, read the total repayment, interest and cancellation terms separately from the clinical decision.
Before you commit
- Request alternatives and their expected maintenance needs.
- Ask who you contact if the implant or restoration needs attention.
- Keep the written quotation and consent documents.
- Take time to consider the plan and seek clarification.
Does Dental-Worlds publish implant prices?
No practice-level prices were supplied in the imported data. We do not estimate or assign prices to individual providers. Find listings with dental implants recorded and request a personalised assessment.
Read a quotation in three parts
Separate the work needed to prepare your mouth, the implant surgery and the replacement teeth. The word implant is sometimes used for the whole treatment and sometimes for the component in the jaw. Ask the provider to identify each item in plain English. A clear quotation should allow you to see the proposed number of implants and the number and type of replacement teeth.
Then mark each item as included, separately charged or not yet decided. Do not treat an empty box as included. For example, if the assessment has not established whether grafting is required, ask when that decision will be made and when you will receive a revised total. Avoid adding together advertised prices from different providers as if they describe your own treatment plan.
Budget for the whole course of care
Request separate information about future review appointments, hygiene care and repairs. Ask whether the provider's quoted follow-up ends at fitting, after a specified period or at another defined stage. If there is a warranty, request its written conditions, exclusions and any attendance requirements. A warranty does not remove the need to understand clinical risks.
Your personal planning can also include travel, time away from work and help at home if the proposed care requires it. These are not treatment fees, but they can affect whether a plan is practical. Ask for an outline appointment schedule before booking non-refundable travel or arranging leave.
Questions for the person explaining payment
- When is each payment due, and which treatment stage does it cover?
- What happens to the price if the plan changes after examination?
- Which services would be billed by another clinician or laboratory?
- What are the cancellation and refund arrangements before treatment starts?
- If finance is offered, can I take away the full agreement and compare the total repayment?
Keep the clinical recommendation and the payment discussion understandable separately. If something is unclear, ask for an updated written explanation rather than relying on a verbal estimate. You can seek another clinical opinion when comparing substantial treatment proposals.
A useful comparison note
For each proposal, record the final restoration, preparatory work, number of visits, total stated fee, undecided items and aftercare arrangements. Put your unanswered questions beside those entries. This makes differences visible without turning a headline price into a quality ranking. Read the implant treatment guide if the terminology in a quotation is unfamiliar.
